Shrinkydinks

Do you remember these? Shrinkydinks! I used to love these things when I was a kid. You get the "magic plastic", colour it, bake it and then play with and collect the shrunken bits of colourful plastic. You can make all sorts of stuff with them. Lydia and I made bug toys. Since this batch we've gotten a jewlery kit and a tinkerbell book where the fairies can be moved around and inserted in different scenes. Lydia loves colouring the pieces and we both like watching the plastic curl and shrink. It's a fun activity and something mommy remembers doing when she was a girl.

It's really interesting to me to read all the responses mostly because it's so different here and what all of us have experienced. Right now we are leaning towards dance. Mostly because I know the dance instructor and it is the least expensive of the programs. (It is also the least elitist.) The most expensive and the most elitist is cheerleading. Which we had her in and we took her out of because even at 2 (when we started her) it was getting ugly in there. It is also the activity around here with the biggest impact to the wallet as the cheerleading school here is nationally recognized and means BUSINESS. They were recruiting Liddy pretty hard saying things I didn't care for like all Asians being born cheerleaders. (Never heard that one before...but didn't matter they were still judging her potential not by her ability, but by her race. Didn't like it...so OUT!) The second most expensive program around here is Tai Kwan Do. It's really what I want her to do...but like I said...expensive. $100 a month plus they need uniforms and later many travel and compete. Would Liddy? Don't know. Why do I want her to do it? Other than the boy who has a growth problem he's being treated for at Vanderbuilt Lydia is the smallest in her class. I like the idea of the discipline she will learn, but also the self defense. I want her to be able to kick butt if needed. Gymnastics here is sketchy. $40 a month and run out of a small gym where they mostly oversee a personal workout. Dance is $25 a month (which suits our budget best) and is taught by the university's dance instructor who I like and trust. But I like and trust Master D. at the Tai Kwon Do. I haven't asked yet if she can "sample" class anywhere as life got weird here for me today. I have to move offices NOW and I've been in my office for awhile so I'm stressed trying to get ready to move a huge amount of crap a week sooner than expected. Sigh....
